ANDY MCMILLiN - OFF ROAD RACER

Team Toyo since 2016

In which series are you currently racing as a member of Team Toyo?

I am currently racing in the Best in the Desert series as well as the SCORE International series which features the Baja 1000.

Current Race Vehicle:

TSCO T-1 Ford Raptor Trophy Truck

Birthday:

May 11th

Hometown:

San Diego, California

Top accomplishments:

Tied for most overall Baja 1000 wins of all time with 5.
Youngest overall Baja 1000 winner in history (on Toyo Tires!) age 19.
Fastest average speed ever for San Felipe 250 race at 63.3 mph.
Winning 5 out of 7 races in 2009, including Baja 1000, Parker 425, Mint 400, Vegas to Reno 1000.

When and how did you get into racing?

My family has been racing off-road since 1976. I guess you could say I was born into it.

Most memorable moment in your career:

Winning the Baja 1000 in 2009 with my dad as my teammate.

Is there a person who has contributed directly to your success in racing?

My dad for sure. He has taught me everything I know about racing, driving strategy, preparation, do's and don'ts, and most importantly he has let me make mistakes which is, in my opinion, how you learn best.

If you could have anyone as your co-driver for just one race, who would you pick and why?

Ivan Stewart when he was in his prime. There was nobody like him and there most likely won't be anyone like him again. He was the man, the Ironman as a matter of fact.

What kind of training do you prefer to stay in shape, and why?

I do indoor cycling classes 3 days a week for triathletes and endurance athletes and I ride my road bike on the weekend every now and then which helps my endurance tremendously. I also work out in the gym on the days I'm not cycling, so I stay in pretty good shape year round.

What advice do you have for a fan who wants to get into racing?

Start out by offering to volunteer for a race team if you can't afford a vehicle yourself. You will learn the ins and outs of the sport and have a ton of fun while doing it.

Person Most Admired in your life:

My dad. His work ethic, drive to succeed and win, and his care for his family and friends is unparalleled and a big part of why I am successful both on the race track and in my personal life.

What do you do when you’re not racing?

I hang out with my wife and 1.5 year old daughter. We go to the river, take hikes and bike rides, go to the beach. We love the outdoors and are fortunate to be living in San Diego where we are able to enjoy the outdoors year round.

What’s your daily driver and what is your dream car?

I drive a Range Rover Sport, and my dream car is two trophy trucks!
