When and how did you get into racing?
I've always been a fan of rally racing and the WRC since I was a child, but as an adult I got into rally racing in 2004 when I learned from a friend (Travis Pastrana) that America had a national rally championship. In 2005, I competed in a full season, nabbed the Rookie of the Year award and never lifted off the throttle after that.
Most memorable moment in your career:
Racing against Colin McRae at X-Games and driving well enough to put the pressure on him which then led to him rolling his racecar right before the finish line. He was a hero of mine and to be able to race against him and win was a dream come true.
Is there a person who has contributed directly to your success in racing?
I'd say that my team director, Derek Dauncey, has really helped shape me into the racing competitor that I am today. I've been working with him since my early rally days and his knowledge is something that I lean on heavily still to this day.
What kind of training do you prefer to stay in shape and why?
I like to do a mix of cardio work -- downhill mountain biking, Muay Thai, snowboarding -- with some more traditional stuff like weights work and reaction drills. I find that having a balanced mix that focuses on my brain and how quickly I can adapt and adjust is the best solution for being fast in the car and on the track.
What advice do you have for a fan who wants to get into racing?
I always recommend that you start at a driving school that specializes in the form of racing you're looking to compete in. Education is important for everything in life, including racing!
Person most admired in your life:
Colin McRae would be the person I admired most in racing. I was inspired by his "flat out" driving style from the moment I first saw it. It's what fueled my desire to get into rally.
What do you do when you’re not racing?
I love to spend time with my wife, my kids and my two Siberian husky fur machines. I also enjoy getting out and mountain biking, snowmobiling, snowboarding, riding dirt bikes, UTVs, boating, etc.
What’s your daily driver and what is your dream car?
My daily driver is a Ford Raptor and my dream car would be a Ford RS200 -- mostly because it was an amazing Group B rally car that was also sold to the public as a street vehicle due to homologation rules.
